15th September 2011
The supporting highway works involve the installation of a signalised pedestrian crossing on Castle Lane West (West of Broadway Lane) with associated works to the footways and central refuge islands. It will also entail the relocation of the bus shelter/lay-by to facilitate the installation of the pedestrian crossing.
The works also include amendments to the central refuge on Broadway Lane at the approach to the roundabout and the Western footway to improve pedestrian facilities in the area.
The work is being carried out as part of the planning approval/conditions for the development of 235 Castle Lane West (change of use from car showroom to retail store). The total cost of these development related highway works are borne by the developer.
The works are due to begin on 19th September and are anticipated to last for approximately 10 weeks. The information signs on site will be amended to indicate the anticipated duration of the works.
The majority of the works will be carried out between the hours of 9.30am and 4pm (Monday to Friday) and generally two way traffic will be maintained along Castle Lane West. In the event that lane restrictions are required e.g. during carriageway surfacing etc. these will be undertaken in the evening after 7.00pm.
The initial sewer connection works in Broadway Lane are sufficiently away from the roundabout to enable them to be undertaken using "Stop and Go" Boards during the day.
