Press release - Urgent update on Holdenhurst Road improvement works

PRESS RELEASE

8th April 2010

Urgent update on Holdenhurst Road improvement works

Motorists using the junction at Holdenhurst Road / Richmond Park Road are being warned to add further time to their journeys over the next few days.

Three way temporary traffic lights have been installed today in order for the gas company to complete the diversion of one of their gas mains. The lights will be removed over the weekend but will be required again during next week to complete this phase of the overall works.

Last month (1st March 2010) saw work begin on the £950,000 road improvement programme which will see the small roundabout at Holdenhurst Road / Richmond Park Road removed and replaced with a new traffic signal control, including a pedestrian crossing to replace the subway. In the long term this major improvement scheme carries many benefits as it will ease traffic congestion experienced daily by many motorists and also improve the local environment.

Ian Kalra, Transportation Manager, commented: We have been working closely with the gas company to co-ordinate their works alongside the council’s improvement works so that they have as little disruption as possible to motorists.
